According to the Hollywood mythology, endlessly revisited by people like George Clooney and Woody Allen, Senator McCarthy was a terrible monster for asking people to "name names." 

"Are you now or have you ever been a member of the communist party?" is the fearsome question posed by McCarthy and others (including Bobby Kennedy, but the left conveniently omits that inconvenient truth). 

Somehow those who held close to their hearts an ideology that led to brutal mass murder are portrayed as paragons of virtue because they refused to answer and "betray" their cause. 

According to the McCarthy "teachable moment," your private political beliefs, should not expose you to government censure. You should not be coerced by the government, nor assaulted or menaced for your politics, even if you were a communist in the era of Stalin.

A strange thing has happened to that lesson. The Sunday edition of the Los Angeles Times details an interesting strategy undertaken by homosexual groups who are seeking to promote a "right" to same sex marriage.  They are out McCarthy-ing Joe McCarthy. 

Radical homosexuals are in court seeking to gain access to, and publish, the names and information of anyone who signed a petition in favor of heterosexual marriage.  If you are in favor of traditional, Biblical marriage, these groups want to put your name out on the web and across various radical organizations in an effort to chill free speech. 

Why do I contend the "gays" want to chill free speech?  Because of their angry attacks on any who dare disagree with their agenda. Look at what they did to West Los Angeles after Proposition 8 passed. They shut down Santa Monica Boulevard in front of the Mormon Temple causing the worst traffic jam in recent memory. 

The L.A. Times mentions the case of the woman who worked at the El Coyote Mexican restaurant who was driven from her job when gangs of angry gays harassed patrons screaming taunts of "shame."  Her crime, according to them, was donating money to the Yes on Prop. 8 campaign. 

These are gestapo tactics.

How can this happen in America?  Don't we enjoy free speech?  Aren't "gays" all for freedom of expression?  Well, the answer to that is "Yes," so long they are the ones expressing themselves in marches, "PRIDE" parades, and obscene festivals. BUT if you say something they do not like, it will be labeled hate and you will be labeled a hate-monger.

The L.A. Times quotes a so-called First Amendment scholar, Eugene Volokh of UCLA:  "As a matter of 1st Amendment law, you have the right to speak anonymously, but you don't have a constitutional right to essentially engage in a legally significant action anonymously," he said. "The state can demand you identify yourself on a petition, and at that point it seems the state is entitled to publish it."  How he gets this interpretation of law from the Constitution, I have no idea.  Volokh's ideas are right in line with the despised Mr. McCarthy.

The Times points out that according to Richard Hasen, a Loyola law professor, the Supreme Court has protected civil rights groups and socialists from revealing the names of their members because of fears they could be harassed and intimidated.  "The court would not necessarily construe signing a ballot measure as a 1st Amendment-protected activity," Hasen said. "But if it is, in fact, true that signers face harassment, I think that's troubling."

Yes, troubling indeed.

Poor old Joe McCarthy tried to find communists working in our government and has been condemned for over 50 years.  When homosexual radicals seek to do it to average citizens who believe the Bible, it is just another day in Obamerica.
