In Virginia: A funny thing happened on the way to the ballot box . . .

President Obama is distancing himself from Virginia Democrat Creigh Deeds, who is trailing by double digits to GOP candidate McDonnell.

What is fascinating about this is not merely the fact that Bob McDonell is way ahead in the first major bell-weather election post Obama, but also the fact that McDonnell is precisely the type of Republican the Left-wing mainstream media keep warning conservatives not to run.  They prefer moderate RINOs such as Juan McCain and Lindsay Graham who advocate for open borders, a "path to citizenship" for illegal aliens, and what Fox News commentator Glenn Beck calls "Obama Lite" social policy.

Beck , a self admitted "recovering alcoholic," makes the bold assertion that people will not imbibe the "spritzer" of a RINO when they can have the hardcore, 100-proof socialism of an Obama Democrat.

McDonnell, a graduate of evangelical Pat Robertson's Regent University, wrote a graduate  thesis in 1989.  This seems rather unremarkable unless you consider the "radical" statements McDonnell made in it.  We know what Mr. McDonnell wrote because the Left-wing Washington Post ran an "expose" last August.

What skeleton did they fined lurking in McDonnell's closet?  Well, he argued that government policy should encourage women to raise children at home through the use of extended parental leave for working mothers.  He argued that divorce is harmful to families. He argued that radical feminists are the enemy of the traditional family (a claim that feminists themselves, from the days of Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan onward, openly admit).  He argued that the government should encourage married couples over "cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators."

You can instantly picture the smoke steaming out of the ears of Washington Post (and Huffington Post and Daily Kos) writers as they read these remarks.

According to the Washington Post, McDonnell's thesis should have resulted in the triumph of the Democrat over this "homophobic" Neanderthal.

A funny happened on the way to the election. The people of Virginia embraced this traditional values candidate and rejected the Obama Democrat.

Hopefully, this is good news for America's future.  Once again, the media are wrong.  Wrong about YOU, the American people.
