Columbus versus Harvey
A hate crime has been committed.
Christopher Columbus has been victimized by the left wing in this country. The state of California has opted to give workers the choice to drop his holiday as a day off from work.
Imagine the uproar if Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger decided to give state employees the opportunity to "opt out" of Martin Luther King Day. It would rightly be seen as an insult to the memory and accomplishments of Dr. King. The Governor would be called an ignorant and intolerant bigot for his utter contempt for historical facts.
What about the historical fact that in 1492 --as every American schoolchild once knew-- Columbus discovered The New World? Columbus brought Christianity to the Americas. That is his crime. That is why calumny is heaped on him. He risked his life and his fortune in an effort to find a new trade route and in the process helped liberate many from the ignorance of pagan idolatry. Yes, pagan idolatry. Human sacrifice was commonplace (see Mel Gibson's gripping film Apocolypto for a reminder of the "Eden" that was the New World prior to Columbus). Slavery and genocide were commonplace. Columbus helped end that. Now he is ignored or excoriated.
Who is to take his place in the Golden State?
Why the great Harvey Milk of course. His accomplishment?
He won a minor office in a city in decline (San Francisco)
Oh, that and he was a homosexual.

It's the age old question. Should the more advanced races have created dangerous "wrinkles in time in evolution" by bringing their advanced ways of technology and living to the barbaric, violent, cannibalistic, less mentally developed areas of the world.
Slavery was invented in Africa by Africans and was going on for thousands of years and still is, long before there even was a "West".
It was exported to the new land but lasted less than a hundred years here. The "West" was at least a "beginning" to an end of this.
It was the first time in history that one race - specifically European - Americans living in America - fought and killed over a half a million of each other to further the rights and freedoms of another race, not their own. Remember it was going on for millenniums in Africa and it never happened there.
Thank God it was an European American who discovered the new land.
Remember, only the discoverer's called them Indians because they first thought they landed in India. To the barbaric, brutal warring natives that lived here, they were not one big happy family called "Indians", but separate tribes with separate names in a constant, eternal savage state of war with each other. Somebody would have crossed somebody's ocean sooner or later, but had they not of, then the same state of war, savagery, tribal extinction, and slavery would probably still be going on here and in all of Africa not just parts of it.
You can say what you want about Christianity's past, but what matters is that things are always moving forward. Christianity has evolved - Islam has not.
So now we have another dangerous "wrinkle in time in evolution" where Muslims have access to 21st Century weapons but are still living mentally in the 7th Century.
